This year, join the rest of the country in commemorating the centenary of the discovery of insulin taking the 100 Challenge for T1D. Every route is a route to the cure.  On June 13th join us at our online finish line for a uniquely immersive and interactive experience where we will all come together from the comfort of our own homes to make a difference in the lives of those living with T1D.

As we commemorate the discovery of insulin 100 years ago, we are inviting you to be part of this year’s event and by taking the 100 challenge and walking 100km to mark this milestone. Walking not your style? Make your fundraising challenge your own by thinking 100 – whether it’s 100 sit ups, push-ups or bottle drop offs, anything is virtually possible!

In 2021, the Walk will be a national celebration taking place on June 13th . Everyone is invited to make a difference as we celebrate and honour our loved ones living with T1D. It doesn’t matter where you walk. Just that you register. We hope all Canadians will join us for the collective celebration of the centenary anniversary of the discovery of insulin.

At this time we are evaluating our 2022 plan for events as we continue to monitor Health Canada’s regulations as it relates to social gatherings. We will continue to monitor and update you on the status of these as more information becomes available.

Registration

A: Click on the register link at jdrfwalk.ca and follow the prompts to register yourself and your team!
A: There is no registration fee to participate in the Walk. As a key fundraising event for JDRF, we encourage all Walkers to raise a minimum of $125.
A:

No, you do not have to register your entire team; however, we encourage all members of your team to register online. If you choose to register team members, they will receive an email guiding them through the login process to take control of their account. Should you need help with registering team members, please contact us at walk@jdrf.ca or via phone at 1.877.505.5373.and we will be happy to help.

Go to jdrfwalk.ca and search for the team you wish to join using the search box. Click on the team name and click "Join this Team", then follow the instructions to register!

As a Team Captain, once you have registered and created your team, log in on JDRFWalk.ca and follow these steps:

  1. Click on “Email” on the navigation bar at the top
  2. Click “Join My Team” and message type “Join My Team"
  3. Enter the email addresses of team members; and an email will automatically be generated inviting them to register. Team members can click on the link provided within the email and follow the steps to register.

Fundraising

A: The Sun Life Walk to Cure Diabetes for JDRF fundraising rewards are entirely paperless! After your donations have been processed, you will receive an email with instructions on how to redeem your e-gift card after the event is complete.

When you reach out to family and friends to support your fundraising efforts, being sensitive to what other people are feeling or experiencing right now is important. Share your personal T1D experience, so people understand why this is so important to you. Emphasize the need for donations to keep research moving forward and encourage people to give what they can.

The Sneaker Club is our group of Sun Life Walk to Cure Diabetes for JDRF top fundraisers who have fundraised a minimum of $1000! Visit the Sneaker Club to see which Walkers are current members.

Our online system is a secure site and fundraising online is the most cost-effective way to raise money in support of the Sun Life Walk to Cure Diabetes for JDRF.

A:

Team fundraising efforts will automatically be included in the Team Captains fundraising totals when calculating the qualifying amount for e-gift cards. For example, if a Team Captain raises $250 and then the team raises an additional $500, the Team Captain would be entitled to receive fundraising rewards for the $750. Note that team fundraising is specific to donations made to the team and not an individual team member.

JDRF pays for all fundraising rewards. To help JDRF direct more funds to research, participants can donate their rewards back to JDRF. JDRF negotiates discounts on purchased prizes nationally.

Thank you for your outstanding fundraising. Individuals are awarded a maximum of $500 in e-gift cards.

Absolutely. You are welcome to share your fundraising rewards with your team if you wish.

Participation on June 13th

A: No, but you might want to! The Sun Life Walk to Cure Diabetes for JDRF is the largest fundraising event in Canada that rallies the type 1 diabetes community to unite and raise funds for T1D research. You won’t want to miss it!
A: There is no minimum age to participate but we recommend those 18 and under get parental permission before registering. Stay tuned for information on the virtual platform.

A: The great thing about this year's event is that you can participate anytime, anywhere! We invite all walkers to participate in this year's event by 'thinking 100' in honour of the centenary of the discovery of insulin. It doesn't matter where you walk, just that you register.
 
We invite all team members to join us and the T1D community across Canada at our virtual finish line on June 13th. We realize that some team members may not be able to join us on the day of the event. All funds raised will go towards furthering our efforts to accelerate type 1 diabetes research.

Strava

A: Strava is a free fitness-tracking app that records exercise from your device of choice. You can download Strava to your mobile device for free from any online app store. There are free and paid versions of Strava but you do not need to sign up for the paid version to track your activity for the Walk.
A: It’s easy! Simply log in to your Participant Centre and click on the Fitness Goal flag on the left-hand side of the screen. Click the orange Connect Strava button to be taken to the Strava website. Log in to your existing Strava account or sign up for free and you will be automatically redirected back to your Participant Centre.
A:

No, you do not need to join the JDRF/FRDJ Canada Strava Club to track your fitness but you are welcome to join! Log into Strava and search for the JDRF/FRDJ Canada under Clubs on Strava.

A:

The connection from Strava to your “My Activity” tracker should be made almost instantly. It should not take longer than one hour to connect and display activity.

There can be delays to retrieve the first activity from a new Strava user but if this issues persists and you notice that there your activity does not appear in 24 hours, check to make sure that your activity settings in Strava are set to “Public” and that you have not selected “Followers Only” or “Only You” in your display settings.

Also be sure to check the date range of the activity in your Fitness Goals section of your Participant Centre. For more information from Strava, click here or reach out to our Walk Support Team at walk@jdrf.ca or via phone at 1.877.505.5373 and they will do their best to assist.

Strava pulls the language preference of whatever device you register from. If you register in English and your computer or mobile device’s language preference is set to English, you will be directed to the English Strava page, regardless of what language you registered for the Walk in. Offline Funds

A: When we upgraded the Participant Centre, we found that the Offline Funds section needed a little more work before we shared it with our Walkers this year. JDRF has put together a process to help safely and efficiently process Offline Funds, get them reflected on fundraising pages and ensure that tax receipts are quickly processed to your donors. Should you have any questions about the Offline Funds process in 2021, please reach out to a member of our Walk Support Team at walk@jdrf.ca or via phone at 1.877.505.5373. 
A: That’s great! Please complete the Pledge Form, email finance@jdrf.ca and mail JDRF Canada a cheque for the total of the pledges on your pledge form. JDRF’s mailing address is JDRF National Support Office, 235 Yorkland Blvd., Suite 600, Toronto, ON M2J 4Y8. Alternatively, you can mail your Pledge Form in alongside your cheque. JDRF’s Finance Team will process your donation when it arrives.

Donations

A:

Fundraising online is safe and easy. Visit our  Fundraising Resources page to check out our Fundraising Tips, Virtual Fundraising Ideas and more. Then make sure you login to your Participant Centre to personalize your fundraising page, send emails, thank donors and more!

To see who sponsored you, login to your Participant Centre and click on “Donations” on the left-hand side menu. You will see a summary of the amount raised, your goal and the number of donations received.

A: Absolutely. You can simply click on the donate button on the top right corner of this page or contact our Walk Support Team at walk@jdrf.ca or via phone at 1.877.505.5373.

Tax Receipts

A: Online tax receipts will be issued immediately for all amounts to the email address provided during the online donation process. Please contact walk@jdrf.ca.

Offline tax receipts will be issued within six to 10 weeks after the event for donations of $20 or more. In order to receive a tax receipt, the donor's name and address must be completed and legible. Tax receipts for credit card donations will be issued in the name of the cardholder. Corporate or company donations must include a contact name to direct the tax receipt to.
A: Electronic tax receipts are sent in PDF format. If you currently do not have Adobe Reader on your computer, you will not be able to open the attachment. You can download Adobe Reader for free by clicking here. If you are still unable to open a tax receipt, please contact walk@jdrf.ca.
A: Yes. Participants that qualify for an e-gift card will have the option to donate their e-gift card back to JDRF and direct more funds for research. To donate your e-gift card back, follow the prompts in the Fundraising Rewards email that will take you to an option to donate back your rewards. You will be emailed your tax receipt immediately once you have full processed the request with the on-line system. Note that tax receipts will be issued in the name of the participant who qualified for the fundraising rewards and is non-transferable. Thank you for your donation!
